Hipi Top
Hipi Top
Looking for a cozy sweater? An effortless top to wear to work? Perhaps you want a casual tee? Whatever you’re after, and whatever the season, the Hipi top has you covered!
Hipi is a loose-fitting knit top with a subtle high-low hem, and a nod to the 1980’s with batwing-style sleeves. Angled seam lines on front and back are perfect for playing around with print or stripe direction, or colour blocking.
Mix and match with two neckline options (crew neck and scoop neck), short banded sleeves or long sleeves with a drop shoulder, and either a regular fold-under hem or a wide hem band. Making the long sleeved variation? Choose between a regular hem or wide cuffs.
Sizes
Hipi is in Muse sizing 28 - 48, which correspond to high bust sizes 28" - 48" and full bust sizes 30" - 50".
Suggested fabrics
Hipi will work well in any knit fabric with at least 15% stretch.
For summer, try making Hipi in a cotton, bamboo, rayon, polyester, or blend jersey knit. For something a bit different, make Hipi in a stretch lace and channel your inner Cindi Lauper!
Weather a bit cooler? Make a cozy Hipi jumper in a sweater knit, merino, wool, acrylic, French terry, or even a sweatshirt or fleece knit with a bit of stretch.
Feel like getting experimental? With it’s looser shape, Hipi is perfect for mixing and matching different types of fabric. Try using a woven fabric on some of the panels! Just make sure you choose a knit fabric for the neck, hem and sleeve bands. If you’re making the long-sleeved version of Hipi, you will need a knit fabric for the long sleeves.
Fabric requirements
Fabric requirements are based on size 48 and the cuffed sleeve variation, except where stated. Use fabric with at least 15% stretch. Extra fabric may be required to match patterns or stripes. Smaller sizes may be able to be cut out of less fabric, however the amount below is the most you will need for the given variation in a fabric with no print direction. Note that if making the Hipi top variation with hem band you will need to use 55” / 140cm wide fabric.
